Please could all you allotment holders let me know your views on the latest proposal from our local Fleetwood council . They have been in consultation with the “National Allotments Association” who are advising that only the allotment holder can work the allotment . I have a friend that helps me with my allotment ,he is a reformed alcoholic and unemployed helping me with my allotment is his way of dealing with his problems. If the proposal is put into effect helpers will only be allowed on the allotment with the allotment holder. One of my allotment friends a lady, works all day and relies on her husband to water the plants, feed the chickens and help with things he can do, this means she will have a big problem working the site. Allotment workers don’t just grow plants the allotment is a place were family’s get together for BBQ,s and help with the weeding.
Please let me know the rules that apply to your allotment association .
Regards pop.

Have had two allotments in the past , no such rules there. Sounds very restrictive.

I suppose you can see the reasoning behind it. Only people with an allotment, so no thieves, vandals etc. But who is going to police it? Can't see the Council employing someone with enough power to research, question and throw anybody off.
Surely other allotment holders would know who feeds chickens, hoes weeds etc., and they would be the ones to have to report it. Then what happens? Two days/weeks later someone might appear, but I wouldn't count on it.
Sounds like a desk-bound moron thinking that one up, I wouldn't worry about it too much!

was it April 1st not July1st? Stupid Councils - what a ridiculous thing to think up. Never heard of this one before, not an allotmenteer but know lots who are will try and find out what their rules and regulations are. Wonder if Simbad is reading this they have allotments behind their property.

They will have you wearing uniforms next, and saluting
the Committee.

Best thing to do is write to The National Association
of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners, Hunters Road,
Corby, Northants.
