I have to say I've never heard of a "stumpery"...but am very impressed with the concept and your photos. Am I understanding this correctly - you just PLACE the stumps and roots in the garden and plant IN them?

I'd like to add my welcome and echo the sentiments above...can't wait to see pictures of your cottage & garden as well as your neighbors'. Sounds like something out of a story book. Nice blog :)

Have fun with your new arrival, Socks! Love 'em to pieces...My opinion (being an avid cat person as well)...error on the side of caution.

Thank you everyone for the "welcome back" and nice comments. I didn't mention my parents in Arizona (2000 miles away) are 86 and having promblems as well ! :( Trying to get them back to Michigan where we can be with them and help them...but, so far a "no go". All 3 at once! Eeeeek!

Congratulations to you both Polloyannaever! It does everyone's heart good to know it's never too late! (Keep that in mind catfinch :) I was divorced, my husband (15 years my senior) was widowed and we "happened along each other" 11 years ago and have been happily married 10 years next month. My wish for you is to be as happy for many years ahead. Oh yes...and have fun gardening up a storm!
