Hippeastreum. My bulb has been on this windowsill sine planting. It just keeps heading skyward and is already 2&1/2 feet high! Does anyone know how to prevent this for future years. If it gets much taller it might become unstable!

It's straight as an arrow. I thought it was tied to the plant's genome - how tall it gets.

brighter light will slow the rate of growth. perhaps its just a bit shaded by the blind. but 21/2ft is about right for them.
height is governed by its DNA Paul but some leeway occurs due to environmental conditions.

Thanks SBG. It does seem to be thinking about flowering now. The blind has been up for most of the time. I just let it down a day or two ago because I was working in there and it was a bit glary. South facing window. Thanks. I have to turn it each day as it leans so much to the light. I do have daylight lamps, so that might help in future.

My first thought was a light issue - the little plant on the right is leaning towards the light too. Gosh its a giant - I've never had one as tall as that. Wonder how tall Balcony's get. He hasn't been around lately has he??

I hope it produces a nice flower head for you. I had one once which produced 3 flower stems, 13 blooms (5,5,3).
It didn't grow as tall as yours though.

That little plant on the right...what a con that was. I thought it was a bargain. The pot was nice and full of the plant and there was no label on it, so they sold it to me for £3. It grew...or rather appeared to grow well for about two months and then started failing. I blamed myself thinking I’d overwatered. But after allowing it to dry out, I removed the plant from the compost to discover only
One shoot out of the half a dozen had roots! Someone had just shoved cuttings in a pot and put it back on the sale shelf! So that little bit is the only bit of viable Pophos that I actually bought! Grrrrrrr

Are you kidding me! I would take that back immediately.

You'll just have to go back there and try again!

Ach...you live and learn. I didn’t keep my receipt, the plant has been repotted too. I can’t see them taking me seriously. Hopefully it will grow.

did you take a photo of it when you first got it? I tend to take pictures just for my own records. That would be reasonable evidence.

I would take it back regardless. They'd know what mess belongs to them and who returns plants without a good reason?

How do I say thanks?
