they are related distantly. so pull it out by all means if you don't like it.

I love them but they can get a bit out of control. I have Persicaria "Firedance" and "Red Dragon" at work and they look stunning.

Its a persicaria or Bistort. Could be a garden variety but its probably one of the wild/native ones. Pull it out if you don't like it or if you do just weed out the seedlings.
