I need to cut back my wisteria quite heavily this year as it has grown away from the wall quite considerably. It is about 25 years old and has quite a spread. Would it be better to complete the whole plant at one go or do half this year and half next ?

Depends whether you can bear to be without flowers - the plant will grow again even if you cut it back to the main trunk, taking off all growth during winter, but you won't get flowers for a while. So you might want to select parts which may flower this coming year and cut back hard on the rest - but what you cut back hard this year may well not flower again for longer than a year or so. Personally, I'd do it all at once and retrain the new growth...

25 year old Wisteria and you want to cut it... do you have to?... can't you just move the house?... what? not even a little?
such a shame. Oh well, you gotta do what you gotta do.
